Oh what a night! Yatra Bollywood Extravaganza 2017
Yatra Foundation Australia (www.yatrafoundation.org) established in 2007, offers opportunity through quality education to the poorest children in India to assist them escape the vicious cycle of poverty. We support 1200 children in diverse settings where the common theme is that of quality and accessible education.
Our Bollywood Yatra annual fundraiser was held at the St. Kilda town hall on Friday August 4th, and proved to be the hottest ticket in town on the years’ coldest winter night. The function attracted a vibrant, noisy, and wonderful crowd of 340 generous supporters (Yatris) who revelled in the food, music, colour, and camaraderie of the evening. This year’s function attracted those who make this event a yearly party, and those who came for the very first time. There was a special vibe in the air, reflected by the warmth and generosity of all those who attended to have fun as well as learn more about the work of our Foundation, now entering its tenth year!
The food (prepared by Gaylord’s restaurant) was delicious, with great entertainment provided from Sam Goraya (Odhisi dance), Ignite eBollywood dancers, and DJ Aji. Our MC, Natasha Margaritis, and our IT guru Cassie Nixon ensured the night went smoothly, and we had the help of many young volunteers from Wesley College, keen to learn more about our work.
We were very excited to have longtime Yatra supporter and director of the movie, Lion, Garth Davis, speak at the event and discuss how opportunity and education can transform lives.
Through the amazing generosity of all who attended, we are able to sustain quality and accessible education being delivered effectively to the poorest children across India.
We remain deeply humbled by the support and belief all our supporters have shown us over many years and we look forward to our 10th Gala Fundraiser nest year!
